Aki Kaurismäki’s anticipated second instalment of his port cities trilogy. Competing for the Golden Bear in Berlinale 2017.
After trilogy opener Le Havre (2011), Kaurismäki continues to deal with current issues in Europe. The film portrays the story of a Syrian refugee who accidentally ends up in Finland and crosses paths with a divorced salesman looking for a new start by opening a restaurant. Sherman Haji plays Syrian refugee Khaled in his first main role. Salesman Wickström is played by Sakari Kuosmanen, a longtime collaborator of Kaurismäki’s. Minor roles are played by trusted actors from Kaurismäki’s previous films, such as Kati Outinen, Janne Hyytiäinen and Ilkka Koivula.
